14th July 2022, South West, Bristol: BOM IT Solutions in Clue House Bristol has appointed David Trump as Cyber Security Solutions Director to spearhead and grow the company’s new IT security division. The division was formed to protect organisations against the ever-sophisticated techniques of cybercriminals exploiting the vulnerabilities of the hybrid workplace.

According to the latest UK Government ‘Cyber Security Breaches Survey 2022’, nearly 40% of UK companies identified at least one cyberattack on their operations in the last 12 months with close to a third having been attacked at least once a week. Eight in 10 businesses say cyber security is a high priority for senior management.

BOM IT Solutions is a well-established IT services provider supporting and delivering SME and Enterprise business systems and Managed Services on a national and international level. As a family-owned firm, with over 60 years in business, BOM IT Solutions aim to stay ahead of the curve in the cyber security sector, by hiring the most highly trained and experienced staff.

David Trump, who was born in Bristol and now lives in the Cotswolds, is the company’s latest hire. With over 15 years’ experience in the industry he brings with him a great depth of knowledge to help grow the firm’s cyber security division. Having been on the coal face for most of his career, David was looking for his next challenge and joining BOM IT Solutions has given him the opportunity to impart the knowledge he has built over the past decade to revolutionise their services portfolio and help build a sustainable business.

David said: “I have been working in technology for the past 15 years, from BT Global Services, supporting some of the biggest multi-national organisations in the World, to government departments and more recently, Phoenix Datacom, supplying customers with specialist cutting edge tools to help secure their infrastructures in the ever-changing world. This has given me direct experience in understanding customer challenges and the types of tools and practices organisations need to mitigate risk. I am thrilled to be a part of BOM IT Solutions, to shape the department to my vision, which is an exciting opportunity.”

David Trump’s first duties will see him set up and grow the IT security division of BOM IT Solutions. This includes looking at their existing vendor base to determine whether they still have relevance in the ever-changing security world. Attackers are becoming more sophisticated in their ability to circumnavigate security tools, so it is important to have technology partners to reflect this increasing risk, meaning their security portfolio will reflect hybrid technologies, which scale across multiple onsite and cloud platforms.

David added: “I’m responsible for achieving ISO27001 to demonstrate to our customers, not only the importance of keeping their data safe and secure, but also our own commitment in achieving the highest attestation of security practices. Alongside this, we are committed to achieving additional security certifications to illustrate our continued dedication to having the best internal security practices.”

David is currently working with the company’s several hundred customers. Even though BOM IT Solution’s staff are already seen as an extension of the customers’ network, security teams and as trusted advisors, they ensure that their staff are continuously upskilled and able to deliver and manage these IT support services effectively.

David said: “All staff, me included, now have regular enablement sessions to ensure we continue to provide the highest service for our customers and stay at the forefront of cyber security services.”

One of the biggest problems facing organisations now is knowing how to keep up with the attackers’ ever sophisticated techniques and technologies, and what the industry has witnessed of late is a real shortage of skills in the cybersecurity industry. This, coupled with flexible working environments, following the pandemic, has been challenging for many organisations to secure the increasing and complex attack surface.

“There has been a shift recently from trying to keep the attackers out, to how to identify and remediate quickly when a breach occurs,” continued David. “We’re bringing in technologies like Managed Detection and Response (MDR), Network Detection and Response (NDR) and Zero Trust methodologies to provide an automated and orchestrated secure coverage across any sized business, which can quickly adapt to any threat.”
