Headline sponsor, Collibra, joins IBM, Corndel and The Data Shed for fifth year of school

London, United Kingdom – 17  June 2022 – Carruthers and Jackson, the leading global data consultancy firm, has today announced the final sponsor partners for this year’s Carruthers and Jackson Summer School for Data Leaders, which is set to be the largest since the school began in 2017. This year’s headline sponsor, data intelligence company,  Collibra, will be joined by multinational technology company, IBM, management and technology training provider, Corndel, and UK-based data consultancy, The Data Shed.

Now in its fifth year, the school partners annually with a range of the industry’s leading data experts and technology organisations to deliver practical advice, networking opportunities, and tutorials to one of the world’s largest, and growing, communities of Chief Data Officers (CDOs).  Delivered as a free-to-attend 10-week virtual course for aspiring data leaders, the school brings together the next generation of CDOs to learn from Caroline Carruthers and Peter Jackson, two pioneers of the data industry, and partners.

“We’re so excited to be bringing the biggest ever Summer School to data leaders this year, which we couldn’t do without our amazing sponsors,” said Carruthers and Jackson CEO and co-founder, Caroline Carruthers. “We believe the best way to drive innovation in data is to bring together a community of data leaders to share ideas and encourage open discussions. We’re really looking forward to welcoming data professionals to this year’s Summer School and continuing to foster a global community of data leaders.”

This years’ school will include a blend of popular, regular features and a series of innovations in response to alumnus feedback. These include:

  • A new alumni community Q&A section will be featured on the platform for students to share their questions with peers, and course leaders.
  • A new gamified experience gives data leaders the opportunity to earn points throughout different sessions which can later be redeemed for special Summer School related prizes.
  • The course welcomes back regular speakers Scott Taylor, the Data Whisperer, who will lead a session on how to tell a data story with vocabulary, voice and vision, and Hilary McLellan, founder of Your Virtual Mind Trainer, who will lead a session on the importance of resilience and the importance of looking after yourself.

Sponsor Partner Quotes

Stijn “Stan” Christiaens, co-founder and Chief Data Citizen at Collibra, said: “The Carruthers and Jackson Summer School is a great opportunity for data citizens to grow as professionals, giving individuals the chance to learn, connect and share best practices for building data teams and delivering value from data. We are excited to be working with Caroline and Peter once again to welcome the next generation of data leaders into our growing community.”

Anna Sutton, co-Founder of DataShed, said: “We’re really passionate about democratising access to data at The Data Shed. After all, data can only make a difference once it gets into the hands of people who know how to use it to drive change in their organisations. Supporting the growth of data leaders is critical to this mission – by sponsoring Summer School we’re delighted to be taking a small part in the development of the next generation of data evangelists.”

James Kelly, CEO and co-founder of Corndel, said: “Corndel is delighted to be sponsoring this high-impact summer programme for aspiring CDO’s. Developing home-grown talent is so important in helping organisations harness the transformative power of data and thrive in an increasingly competitive environment. Research shows that 53% of the working population currently do not have the essential digital skills needed for the workplace, and this is predicted to rise to 66% by 2030. Arming the data leaders of the future with the tangible, real-life skills they need will help organisations build a data led culture from the bottom up. Corndel is proud to be partnering with Carruthers and Jackson to tackle data literacy challenges across organisations in the UK to enable them to embed a data-empowered culture at every level of their businesses. The world of work has changed so significantly and so rapidly in recent years – the partnership has come as a direct response to the increasing data skills gap within the UK workforce.”
